In June, 1982, Larry Weeda graduated from Reisch Worldwide College of Auctioneering, Mason City, Iowa.With the support of his father and mother, Dale and DeLana (Klenk) Weeda, and one employee, Charles Gordon, Larry cried his first auction two weeks after receiving his diploma.Larry was determined to build the business and with the support of family, the first ten years the business conducted household and farm auctions on location or the renting of the American Legion.
In 1992 Weeda Auction expanded by building the auction house at 505 6th Street, Belle Plaine, while bringing about a larger array of auctions including antique, farm, business liquidation, real estate and lawn and garden auctions.At this point, Dale Weeda obtained his real estate brokers license and in1997, Larry’s wife, Denise (Croft) Weeda received her real estate license.They operate Weeda Realty out of the same office.
In 1997, Larry hired Jeff Slaymaker as a part-time auctioneer who graduated from Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo, Iowa.With Jeff still continuing to work with Larry, Kenny Raue also joined the team in 2009 as a part-time auctioneer.Kenny graduated from Continental Auctioneer College in Mankato, MN.
In 2003, Larry competed in the Iowa Auctioneer’s contest and placed 2nd runner up out of 38 contestants.
In 2012, Weeda Auction celebrated 30 years of service with Larry crying over 900 auctions.At the present time, Larry employs 12 part-time employees including himself, Dale Weeda, Denise Weeda, Louise Weeda, Jone Longnecker, Jeff Slaymaker, Ken Bendorf, Dennis Greenlee, Deb Tonche, Kenny Raue, Joe Leonard and Lance Weeda.
